The Art of Grieving
RITUALS AND EXPRESSIVE ARTS FOR GRIEF
This grief group combines creative prompts, rituals, and verbal processing to help those in grief mourn and incorporate their loss into their life. Each session focuses on a topic central to the grieving process and invites members to process that topic by use of creative prompts such as writing, crafting, painting, movement, or poetry.
Research has shown that the grieving brain is in a state of neuro-fluidity and one of the best ways to support it is with rituals. Ritual soothes the brain through repetitive and contained actions, then invites the whole person (body, spirit, and brain) into the moment when meaning can begin to be made about the loss.
We can not solve grief, but what we can do is provide a structured and safe place for it to express and be honored so life can begin to move again around the grief.
